Pedernales -- Starting the early hours of Saturday morning, organized civil society in Fronteriza Province held a radio marathon in solidarity with the Haitian people. Quantities of medicine, food, water, and logistical support have been donated and gathered in the Civil Defense warehouse, to be taken to the Haitian communities of Jacmel, Marigot, Chote, Okadife, and others that have not been mentioned after the catastrophe that occurred with the earthquake in Haiti.
One million pesos were delivered this morning by the American Humanist Association, represented by Sebastian Vélez of Spain, who arrived this morning at the Civil Defense warehouse of Pedernales to make the delivery, which later will be distributed as food, medicine, water, tools, and other indispensable materials to help Haitians who have been injured and made homeless.
Vélez told the Listín Diario that the million pesos would buy tools from the hardware stores of Pedernales and other portions of money would be used to buy the largest quantities possible of food, water, and medicine to the villages that haven't been mentioned during the catastrophe that occurred in Haiti.
The radio marathon is being transmitted by the stations Radiales de la Kalle, 96.3, and Truenos 99.3, coordinated by the journalist Carlos Julio Féliz.
Representatives of civil organizations of the province were present for the receipt of the donations, including Civil Defense, the Catholic Church, the Christian Community, Evangelical Churches, Civil Government, the Fire Department, the Municipal Council, Public Health, Cenaza, representatives of governmental institutions, and social media outlets from this zone and others.
Other donations
The institution Plan International announced for the following hours a donation of one million dollars to help the Haitian communities affected by this earthquake.
That information was supplied by Angie Díaz, on the radio program "Pedernales and Its Development" directed by the journalists Julio Gómez, Rafael Franco, and others.
Díaz, who is the coordinator of communications for Plan International in the Dominican Republic, said that the donation will be distributed as construction materials, food, medicine, water and other vital materials for the reconstruction of Haiti.
