Help Eradicate Poverty in the Slums of Calcutta

Humanist Charities is proud to announce that it is partnering with Responsible Charity Corp, a humanist charity founded by Hemley Gonzalez, that works to eradicate poverty in the slums of Calcutta in India. Donate now.

Responsible Charity Corp was founded in 2008 after Mr. Gonzalez, while on a four month backpacking trip through India, experienced firsthand the abuse and horrible condition which men and women were subject to under a famous worldwide charity that collects millions of dollars from its donors but largely mismanages such donations.

Determined to create a better charity that works to efficiently manage its funds so as to pass along the most benefits to those in need, Mr. Gonzalez began working in the slums of Calcutta alongside other friends and volunteers who were inspired by the positive change in the lives of the disadvantaged families of the region that resulted from the hard work of the charity.

Through a grassroots movement of friends, families, and humanists from all over the world, Responsible Charity Corp. is able to track and report on their website the exact progress they are making in eradicating poverty in Calcutta. The Charity has already been awarded grants by The Foundation Beyond Belief and The Roxbury Foundation, both of which are humanist organizations.

Responsible Charity Corp works to ensure that administrative costs are as low as possible, unlike many other charity organizations, so that they can do as much good as possible for those who desperately need their help. The Charity has spent over $23,000 to directly help the poor in Calcutta while only spending an additional $5,000 dollars for administrative overhead.

Calcutta remains stricken by poverty, malnutrition, and a host of other medical and economic problems. With your help, we can improve the lives of countless individuals who are struggling to survive on a daily basis by working with a charity that does all it can do provide the largest benefits to those in need while keeping overhead as low as possible. A gift of $10, $25, $50 - or any amount - will make a difference in the lives of countless poor in Calcutta and will work to eradicate poverty in the region.
